Coding Level I-B
For students in 3rd to 5th grade who completed Level I-A or have some coding experience.
Key concepts covered: Working with sprites and backdrops for animations in Scratch. Using coordinates for games. Using repeating loops for more complex tasks. Using random numbers and variables in games. Using costumes and sounds to make fun games. Using logic operations to make decisions automatically. Handling keyboard and sensing events.
Key objectives: Creating fun games to develop student interest in AI and coding. Building a solid foundation in coding through group activities, discussions and extensive hands-on practices. Introducing simple AI concepts and design thinking methodologies through real-life examples and game activities.
Class format: small online class with no more than 6 students
Class time: Tuesday 5:15-6:15 pm EST
Ten lessons in each session.
Winter session begins on Tuesday January 5, 2021. Spring session begins on March 16, 2021.
Students registered for both sessions can join a LeapUp team to compete in the Grow with Google Scratch Coding Online Tournament in May 2021.
