- Craft your own stories of with humor and authenticity
- Covered competitive events: Impromptu, Storytelling, Original Oratory
Grade 5&6
August 2-6 9:30 am – 12:30 pm EDT; August 9-13 3:30 – 6:30 pm EDT
This course is designed to improve upon students’ foundational public speaking skills with advanced techniques and concepts.
- August 2 -6 This week, we will focus on platform speaking, including persuasive speaking, informative speaking, and PowerPoint presentations. By the end of the course, students will be able to prepare a high-level speech with ease, with excellent topic selection, research, structure, and delivery.
- August 9-13 This week, we will focus on limited preparation speaking, including impromptu speaking, extemporaneous debating, and improvisational storytelling. By the end of the course, students will be able to perform high-level speeches with minimal preparation, sharpening their argumentation, critical thinking, spontaneous creativity, and delivery confidence.

- Have guided conversations about a variety of topics
- Create cases with evidence to support their claims
- Practice delivery, refutation, and cross-examination
- Learn and compete in various formats: SPAR, Student Congress, Public Forum
Storytelling & Story Acting Grade 3-5 July 19-23, August 2-6 (PM only)
AM Session: 9:00 am – 12:00 pm EDT; PM Session: 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm EDT
- Learn the interactive art of using words and actions to reveal the elements and images of a story
- Practice telling a cohesive engaging story with gestures, vocal mechanics, characterization and appropriate pacing
