Students will read a variety of texts ranging from classics to modern. They will have the opportunity to study fiction that ranges across several genres. It is especially important to select a diverse range of authors and texts to represent minority and majority cultures. The classroom will respect all voices and allow students to articulate their views professionally and respectfully.
In G45(Grade4th&5th) Class, students learn the process of identifying the main idea, characterization, conflict, plot, setting and theme. Lessons will also focus on discussing and diagramming plot and an understanding of the different themes. The writing component will include lessons on sentence structure, summary, and author’s message.
The G6-8(Grade 6th to 8th) Class will focus on theme and questioning skills. We will briefly review the major literary elements of setting, plot, conflict, character and theme, with a special emphasis on theme and analysis. Students will learn how to support their claims with evidence. They will improve their analytical skills through questioning, reflecting, and discussion techniques. Various writing assignments are incorporated into the course.
